Appointed by Governor Brown February 2013, Reappointed by Governor Brown January 2016. Janea A. Scott is one of five Commissioners on the California Energy Commission. The Energy Commission is the State's primary energy policy and planning agency. Ms. Scott was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in February 2013 and reappointed in January 2016 to serve as the Commission's public member. She is the lead Commissioner on transportation and western regional planning, and in 2014 Ms. Scott led the 2014 Integrated Energy Policy Report Update. Ms. Scott serves as the chair of the California Plug-In Electric Vehicle Collaborative, a public/private organization focused on accelerating the adoption of PEVs to meet California's economic, energy and environmental goals. She is also a member of the California Fuel Cell Partnership and the U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee. Prior to joining the Energy Commission, Ms. Scott worked at the U.S. Department of the Interior in the Office of the Secretary as the Deputy Counselor for Renewable Energy and at Environmental Defense Fund in both the New York and Los Angeles offices as a senior attorney in the climate and air program. Ms. Scott was also an AmeriCorps member working at the San Francisco Urban Service Project from 1996-1997. Ms. Scott earned her J.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder Law School and her M.S. and B.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University.

Mustapha Benmoussa, Ph.D. is a CEO at AGT Nutraceuticals LLC and founder of Atlantic Green Technology, Inc. He received his Ph.D. from Laval University in plant biotechnology and performed post-doctoral research at Indiana University and Purdue University. Dr. Benmoussa occupied different managerial and academic positions along his research and development career. He used biotechnology and processing tools in both fundamental and applied scientific research to develop solutions in nutrition and bioenergy sectors. With his 25 year of experience in plant biotechnology and food science, he developed a microalgae biorefinery technology to produce algae biofuels and high-value chemicals for food, beverages, supplement, cosmetic and energy market.

Mike Schultz is Managing Director of PTI Global Solutions, bringing process technology leadership to companies in the fuels, chemicals, and energy space. Previously Mike was Vice President of Engineering for LanzaTech, where he led the scale-up and commercialization of first of its kind gas fermentation technology for conversion of waste carbon into fuel and chemical products. Prior to LanzaTech, Mike spent two years with Battelle Science and Technology Malaysia, working closely with PETRONAS to develop the R&D infrastructure and capabilities for a robust sustainable fuel and chemical portfolio. This followed a ten-year tenure at UOP in technology development. Mike holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He received the 2015 EPA Greener Synthetic Pathway award and the 2005 Haden Freeman Award for Engineering Excellence from IChemE. Mike has been granted more than 40 US Patents in his career, and has extensive international experience with postings in Malaysia and New Zealand, and frequent travel throughout his career supporting partners and customers in China, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, SE Asia, and Europe.

Tim Rials is the Associate Dean of AgResearch at the University of Tennessee, Institute of Agriculture. This appointment follows 15 years as the Director of the UT Center for Renewable Carbon. Dr. Rials is a graduate of Mississippi State University and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in wood science from Virginia Tech. He joined the university following 13 years with the U.S. Forest Service, Southern Research Station in Pineville, Louisiana, after two years on the faculty of the University of California–Berkeley. Tim’s research career has focused on the efficient and effective utilization of renewable resources in advanced composite materials, including development of high throughput analytical methods for characterizing wood. As director of the Center for Renewable Carbon, he facilitates UTIA’s research and development program on the use of forest and agricultural biomass for alternative liquid fuels, industrial chemicals, and advanced materials. The CRC is home to the Southeastern Regional Sun Grant Center that supports an expansive research portfolio in biomass and bioenergy throughout the region. He also leads a regional team of research and outreach specialists in the Southeastern Partnership for Integrated Biomass Supply Systems, a competitively awarded grant from USDA’s AFRI program. Dr. Rials was recently recognized for his contributions in the area of renewable carbon science with the 2011 AgResearch Impact Award. He is a fellow in the International Academy of Wood Science and an active member of the American Chemical Society’s Cellulose and Renewable Materials Division

Dr. Cinzia Buratti was born in Marsciano (PG, Italy) in 1966. She received her graduation as a Civil Engineer in the year 1990, and continued her Research in Applied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer from the University of Perugia (Italy). She received her PhD in Applied Physics in the year 1995. She worked as an Assistant professor of Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer and Environmental Control Techniques, 1997 ‐ 2004 under the department of Faculty of Engineering in the University of Perugia (Italy). Currently Dr. Cinzia Buratti is working as an Associate professor of Applied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer and Environmental Control Techniques, from 2005, Faculty of Engineering in the University of Perugia (Italy).

Markus Brautsch is Full Professor for Thermodynamics, Energy Technology and Renewable Energies at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden since 1998. He is the founder of the Institute of Energy Technology and the Bavarian Center of Excellence for Combined Heat and Power Generation. In 2014 he was appointed Guest Professor at the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology in China. He is guest lecturer at the Renewable Energy Center in Mithradam (India) and the University of Santa Caterina (Brazil).

Dr. Francisco Colombatti started his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in the Instituto de Agrobiotecnología del Litoral (IAL), working on unknown oxidative resistance genes on plants. his research achieved agronomic interest, because plants overexpressing chimeric genes produce threefold more biomass, up to 100% more seeds and increased tolerance to pathogen. As a consequence, he protected this work and licensed the patent to Plant Bioscience Limited. (PBL®), also, produced a few articles of this research. Immediately after he received his Ph.D. degree, he began working for Molinos Río de la Plata, one of the biggest food companies of the region. His job there was related to multiple projects, but always having as a main project one development aimed to biocontrol Salmonella spp. in the soybean meal production facility. This patented new and novel method of Salmonella spp. biocontrol in soybean crushing facilities led him to win the MIT recognizement as a young innovator. There he played his role as a Head of Project which allowed him to involve in different projects acquiring experience in the agro and food industry and business. Nowadays, Molinos Agro is a "spin off" company that born from Molinos Río de la Plata, focused on processing of soybean and seeking new horizons, always related to grain processing; oil and meal production, and biofuels. He is working not only for Molinos Agro, as a Head of Project and Biotechnological Development Laboratory Director, but also as a consultant for companies like Fugran C.I.S.A. and others.

Dr. Sivakumar Nallusamy is an assistant professor in Department of Biology, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. He holds a Master and PhD degree in Microbiology. Earlier, he worked at Seventh April University, Libya and Bharathidasan University, India. He is establishing a bioprocess laboratory at Sultan Qaboos University. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal papers, 6 book chapters, and has presented more than 30 conference presentations. He is currently supervising one Post-doc, three PhD and one Master students. His current research is focused on the production of biofuel, polyhydroxybutyrate and other value-added products from biomass and waste materials.

Since 2000 Prof.dr.ir. Gerrit Brem is a professor in Energy Technology and chair of the Thermal and Fluid Engineering department at the University of Twente (NL). He is an expert in the field of thermal conversion processes. In his previous job he was a senior scientist/consultant at TNO and in 2009 appointed by TNO as a Senior Research Fellow. He has carried out a large number of commercial research and development projects for national and international clients. He has developed new advanced conversion technologies and demonstrated in practice. Since 2011 he is Scientific Director of the PDEng programme (Professional Doctorate in Engineering) on Energy and Process Technology. The PDeng programme is a two years post-Master designer programme at the University of Twente. Since 2015 he is Scientific Director of the new research Institute of Engineering of the University of Twente.

Seema Singh is a distinguished member of the technical staff at the Sandia National Laboratories, CA and director of the biomass pretreatment at the Joint Bioenergy Institute. For the past decade, she has been developing novel pretreatment technologies based on ionic liquids. She has developed ‘hybrid chem-bio’ approaches and ‘syn-bio tools’ for lignin valorization and single cell technologies for in-situ examination of algal oil. She serves as the organizing committee member of the Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals and Asia-Pacific Conference on Ionic Liquid and Green Processes as well as associate editor and editorial board member of Frontiers in Bioenergy and Biofuels, and Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology respectively. She recently edited the book on “Valorization of Lignocellulosic Biomass in a Biorefinery: From Logistics to Environmental and Performance Impact” and contributed book chapters in Ionic Liquids in the Biorefinery Concept: Challenges and Perspectives and Biofuels for Aviation

Professor Sukla is at present Research Professor in Multidisciplinary research cell,Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University (SOA University), Bhubaneswar. He has also worked as CSIR-Emeritus Scientist at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar after superannuation as Chief Scientist on 2011. He has more than 40 years of R&D experience in the area of Algal Biotechnology, Bio-mineral Processing, and Hydrometallurgy and contributed over 174 papers in International & National Journals in the area of BioScience and other related fields. He has published 4 books & 11 patents and seven students have been awarded Ph.D. degree under his guidance. He is now supervising several students from different Universities for Ph.D. in the area of bioleaching. He has co-edited the book on Mineral Biotechnology 2002, Mineral Biotechnology 2007, and Environmental Microbial Biotechnology (SPRINGER) 2015, Applied and Industrial Biotechnology (IAEBI) 2015. The books have been widely acclaimed by the readers in the field. He was also a leader of several national and international R&D projects in the area of bio-minerals. Mr. Sukla is the recipient of several prestigious awards that include Prof. S.R. Vyas Memorial Award for the year 2010 by Association Of Microbiologists of India (AMI) towards his significant contribution to the Development of Microbiology in India, IIME Mineral Beneficiation Award: Academic / R&D for the year 2009 for his outstanding professional contribution to Mineral Engineering and Sita Ram Rungta Memorial Award – 2007 of the Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists ( SGAT) for the year 2007 for outstanding work in the field of bio-mineral processing. Mr. Sukla is Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports, a journal from Nature Publishing Group, the publishers of Nature. Mr. Sukla is the editorial board member of the World Environment journal (Scientific & Academic Publishing) and International Journal of Nonferrous Metallurgy Mr. Sukla is the National Expert in Envis Centre on Environmental Biotechnology (MOEF), New Delhi.
